Tempeh is not as well known as it’s cousin Tofu – but once you make its acquaintance you’ll wonder why Tempeh isn’t more popular.
My local Safeway does not carry Tempeh, so it’s once of those must buyÂ items when I stop by a Trader Jo’s or Oakland’s version of a Whole Foods (without the “whole paycheck”), Farmer Jo’s.
Tempeh has a meatier texture than Tofu and it’s less processed. It comes in thin beigeÂ bricks that you can cube, crumble or slice lengthwise for frying.
